This may seem strange for someone of my years but the one woman who i was really spell bound with and still am when ever i see her on Television is Fay Wray ,She was really a stunning looking woman and that beauty has for ever been etched in my mind.
I cant give answers why i just find some of these women in this era so beautiful .
One other i used to melt with was Clara Bow ,When we talk about heroines its these two i would pipe up about but Fay Wray was and is my heroine . ;)

Interesting that Hadley Freeman (a fashion correspondent on the Guardian) has written a book about her female heroes ( you can tell she is American as she doesnt use the word heroine) and all but one of her ten awesome women are American. That one is Decca Mitford - life long socialist who married an American.

      Here is her Top Ten

      Betty White
      Miss Piggy
      Bea Archer
      Katherine Hepburn
      Becca Mitford
      Nina Simone
      Gloria Steinem
      Katherine Graham
      Hadley Richardson

So some more very feisty women to add to the roll call. For more information on the book and these ten amazing women check the link below.

      hugs

I'm not sure I've got any specific heroines, but that's ok as I don't have any heroes either. However one woman who did take my breath away was Ingrid Bergman when I saw her in a full cinema screening of 'Casablanca'.

      She was stunning...

While we are on the subject of rock music goddesses, Nicky and Nina, let me add Chrissy Amphlett to the list. She was the most amazing rock singer i have ever seen, more like a method actor really who presented the most extroverted and sexual presence on stage of any woman ever. She was a fabulous singer with great control but who could conjure like few before her the real urgency that defines rock from other forms of music. She was also unafraid and as a result her performances, always growing never the same, were hypnotic and both scary and magical.
Rest in Peace, Chrissy, there has been no one to match you for the sheer combination of vocal ability and live rock performance. The sheer sexual aggression that you unleashed was truly something both amazing and inspiring to behold. Each performance was a work of art and every performance was built upon the last. You will never be forgotten for what you gave, Chrissy!

...and I have to agree with Monique, Chrissie Amphlett was a rock goddess in my eyes too, a wonderful singer/performer and the instigator of many wet dreams on my part...only saw her live twice but she was the epitome of rock in it's purest form (I too miss her deeply...and she was from geelong!)

My heroine has to be Gabriella Sabatini, there was just a moment growing up when I realised that I wanted to be so much like her. She was my idea of physical perfection...

I could list many women that I aspire to be like such as Sandra Bullock or Kate Beckinsale. But as we are talking heroines then the one and only in my life has to be my mother. After a short while she accepted what I am and how I wanted to be with love and understanding support and encouragement. She made my life and still does make it as easy and as comfortable as it could be. For this I will be eternally grateful as I am sure it was not easy for her to accept. Bless you Mum xxx

I felt that shivering insecurities when I watch Gena Davis movies. She is so strong and yet gentle. She is tall, and it makes her stand out, yet she does not hide or whether from these insecurities. I whether and crumble from my own weight.

My heroine is Florence Nightingale. On a flippant note, because she basically invented the modern nursing profession and I loved nurses in the 1960's uniform. lol

On a serious note, however, she must have made a huge difference to the lives of the soldiers in Scutari, at the time. Her on-going legacy is the nursing profession we see today. I for one have had plenty of contact with this profession and they deserve our respect and gratitude.
